Don’t Do Unnecessary Asbestos Removal Work…

Recent articles within the press have brought to the attention of the public evidence of overcharging within the asbestos removal industry. The press have suggested in the region of £34 million as the total overcharge for the unnecessary removal of asbestos.

What are sometimes seen as removal “scams” are usually based upon poor advice and what can only be called scaremongering in order to persuade clients to remove asbestos when there is no requirement to do so. CSS do not themselves carry out asbestos removals so you will always get impartial professional advice.

The Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2002 (CAWR) clearly state that asbestos should be “managed” and only removed when absolutely necessary; this is true for all asbestos types. Asbestos can be managed through an effective Management Plan and re-inspections. Many Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM’s) even when in a poor state of repair need not be removed and it is in the majority of cases considerably cheaper to use control actions other than removal, such as encapsulation or enclosure.

CSS offer these Management Plans and advice on how to deal with asbestos containing materials as standard in every report we produce. To help you we would be happy to consider the validity of any advice given to you and offer price checks based on our experience to safeguard you, and these are usually free of charge!
